| Daïa High School Time Duration: 02hoursStream: Second Year Foreign Languages ClassFirst Term ExamPART ONE/ READING Read the text carefully then do the activities.Peace in the world has always stood on a fragile balance. Since times immemorial, it has faced various dangers which do not encourage the construction of a favourable environment for its existence. The main factor which acts against it is linked with the economic and political interests that each nation pursues. As all countries are animated with the same ambition which is to become wealthy and powerful, they gradually build up an international context where competition and incessant struggles dominate. The fact that the resources of the planet are too limited to satisfy the increasing demands of all communities in terms of food, clothes and other needs sometimes prepares the ground for wars and armed conflicts. Therefore, all efforts to protect peace throughout the planet get insignificant in front of the strong desire of human beings not only to keep alive but also to acquire better access to material comfort whatever the price to pay for that. This attitude has often created a climate of hostility and mistrust throughout every continent. The result is that the gap separating nations has not ceased to widen and the relations between them marked by violence, injustice and intolerance.
