WFP stands for World Food Programme.
It’s a part of the United Nations family. It is the organisation in the United
Nations that deals with food.
Countries that are able to spare
food agree to donate it to WFP which sends it countries that are not able to
grow enough to feed their populations. This food is used to assist government
projects to improve living conditions and increase self-sufficiency.
WFP’s headquarters are in Rome, Italy.
WFP is in fact one of the largest development agencies, in terms of resources,
in the UN.
WFP-assisted programmes provide work
and food. Projects benefit the workers by improving the fertility of their
land, providing wells and constructing roads to improve communication between
villages.
